The purpose of the presentation is to provide an overview of the PEO practice guideline Structural Condition Assessments of Existing Buildings and Designated Structures. This guideline defines the professional requirements imposed on practitioners who perform structural condition assessments of existing buildings as defined in the Building Code Act, 1992, including designated structures as defined in the Building Code. Structural condition assessments of existing buildings are to be methodical, scientific investigations with clearly defined objectives, carried out with sufficient rigour to provide reliable findings. The structural condition assessment objectives are to be based on the particular circumstances that cause the assessment to be required. These objectives, the assessment program and the findings are to be clearly stated.
