On August 9th, 39 members of the PEO Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter enjoyed a guided tour of the Amazon Fulfillment Centre in Brampton to gain insight as to how all those packages made it to their mailboxes so quickly and accurately.
It is a large facility at over 850,000 sq.ft. and has over 20 km of conveyor belts. Over 2000 employees working two shifts keep the place running for 22 hours daily, with a 2 hour break for maintenance.
In addition to the building, the combination of processing software, robots, conveyors and staff left the attendees quite impressed with the efficient operation.
As a parting gesture, Amazon was generous to give each attendee an Amazon stainless steel water bottle up completion of the tour.
