SUMMARY:Barrie Surface Water and Waste Water Treatment Plant Tours
DESCRIPTION:Join the PEO Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter for a tour of the Surface Water and Waste Water Treatment Plant!\nThe first tour will occur at the The Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) at 9:30AM. \nThe SWTP began supplying water to Barrie in 2011. Surface water is drawn from Lake Simcoe (Kempenfelt Bay) through a pipe nearly 1km from shore and 26m deep. Water is pumped to a low-lift pumping station close to the shoreline\, then up to the SWTP at 20 Royal Parkside Drive. \nFollowing the tour of the SWTP\, a tour of the Barrie Waste Water Treatment Plant will occur from 11:00AM – 12:00PM.  \nThe City’s Wastewater Treatment Section consists of six major pumping stations and one state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Facility (WwTF)\, which is a tertiary treatment plant that uses ultra violet disinfection to treat all sewage before sending it into Lake Simcoe.\nThe address to the Waste Water Treatment Plant is:\n249 Bradford StreetBarrie\, OntarioL4M 4T5\nTo ensure the safety of all tour participants\, safety shoes (steel toed) are required to be worn at all times during the tour of both the Surface Water and Waste Water Treatment Plants.\nThere is a nominal charge of $10.00 per interested participant for these tours\, and all proceeds will go towards the PEO Simcoe Muskoka Scholarship fund! \nPlease visit the City of Barrie’s website below to learn more about these two facilities:\nhttps://www.barrie.ca/Living/Water/Pages/Water-Treatment.aspx

DESCRIPTION:Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) is Canada’s largest single source of federal government support for industrial R&D in Canada. Each year over $3 billion in tax credits and cash refunds are administered to over 20\,000 taxpayers – the average claim size is around $150k. There is a very broad range of fields of science eligible under the program\, including: Software Engineering\, Civil Engineering\, Manufacturing\, Chemical Engineering\, etc.\nThis program is geared towards small and medium sized Canadian companies however many either haven’t heard of the program or do not think that the work they do is eligible. If you are not currently filing SR&ED claims ask yourself…\nAre you…• Developing SOMETHING new or making incremental improvements (materials\, devices\, products or processes)?• Improving functionality\, quality\, cost\, cycle times\, scrap rates etc of SOMETHING?• Better at SOMETHING today than you were in the past?\nThe SOMETHING may be eligible for SR&ED credits!\nThis presentation will explain the eligibility requirements of the SR&ED program\, explain the financial drivers and incentives available\, and provide a broad range of eligible project examples. The goal of the presentation is to highlight that most engineering companies that are involved in developing or improving SOMETHING may be eligible\, and to explain how easy it is to apply for the claim.\nOur presenter\, Josh Dyment\, BASc\, MASc\, P.Eng is a Manager at Grant Thornton LLP specializing in assisting engineering clients to file SR&ED claims. He has a passion for new technology and R&D\, energetic and considers himself a creative thinker who is adept at thinking outside-of-the-box; this has served him well when working with engineers from a wide variety of industries to frame their projects in an eligible way to maximize their SR&D claims.\nHe is a mechanical engineer from the University of Waterloo with 12 years’ experience in automation\, manufacturing and SR&ED.
